2011 Festival Another Smashing Success

Festival Kids  Again this year, kids as young as 4 years old participated with their parents at the 3rd Annual Festival 4 Fitness. New this year was a Samurai Warrior demonstration led by an 18th Generation Warrior, who is one of only two such people in the world.  The participants were also treated to an appearance from Cherie Piper and Dominique Bosshart both of whom brought their Olympic medals for people to handle and were for pictures.

Nox Dojo was well represented in the category winner's circle, winning four of the top prizes including karate star Morana Zeskoski who defended her title for a third straight year.

An exciting aspect of the festival this year was the addition of several new sponsors including Under Armour who donated free performance shirts to all participants and volunteers.

FESTIVAL 2010

Our summer Fitness Festival brings together athletes (kids, parents, teachers and coaches) for a fun afternoon of challenge and competition. 100% of the registration fees go to programs that work towards minimizing bullying, gang violence in our schools and works towards getting guns off our streets.

This is primarily accomplished through the Argo Foundation’s Huddle Up Program, where they spend a year with a school promoting the cause, organizing school wide assemblies (Argo players attend and share their stories) , and supporting the school’s organization committee (made up of students) to ensure the message is delivered to students and parents.  Also included in this program is an opportunity for committee members to attend a yearly summit on preventing bullying and each school receives 50 tickets to an Argo game.

The support received at the 2010 festival enable us to fund the Huddle Program at three Markham Schools in 2011.

ANOTHER GREAT FESTIVAL WITH TWICE AS MANY PEOPLE AS LAST YEAR

On Sunday August 15th, the annual Festival 4 Athletes which was primarily supported by Advantage Fitness, Personal Best Health & Performance and The Canadian Scholarship Trust Foundation, raised twice as much for the Argo Foundation Stop the Violence Program.

In addition to Olympic and professional athletes, kids as young as 4 years old competed with their friends and family members to not only raise funds for the Argo Foundation but also to collect food for the Markham Food Bank.

Summary from 2009 Festival

snap article

The Festival 4 Athletes that took place on Saturday October 17, 2009 was a wonderfully successful day.  Athletes, parents, teachers and coaches tested their speed, strength and agility while supporting The Argos Foundation (www.stoptheviolence.ca) and the Markham Food Bank.

kerry and friends

The energy for the day was primarily fueled by Toronto Argos alumni players and the many Olympic athletes who brought their medals, signed autographs, and posed for pictures. Furthermore, Argos quarterback Kerry Joseph was outstanding, and stayed well beyond the time he was committed to, he was a true gentleman.

To all the volunteers and coaches who gave their time freely and tirelessly leading up to and on the day of the Festival, many thanks – you were all amazing.
